Shamillia Harris, known in the literary world as Millia the Writer, is a children’s book author, illustrator, educator, and communication strategist who believes in the power of culture, confidence, and clear language. She is the Founder and Center Director of Harris Academy of Early Learning, where she creates immersive, culturally grounded learning environments that help children and families thrive.
With an Associate of Arts and Science in Early Childhood Education from Renton Technical College and a Bachelor’s degree in Early Care and Education from the University of Washington, Shamillia blends academic expertise with lived experience to teach communication in a way that feels real, accessible, and empowering.
Her work centers on helping people show up with presence, speak with clarity, and trust their own voice, without shrinking, code‑switching themselves into exhaustion, or abandoning the cultural strengths that shaped them. Through her books, workshops, and storytelling, she equips readers with practical tools to navigate conversations with confidence and authenticity.
Whether she’s writing for children or adults, Shamillia’s mission remains the same:
to help people stand taller, speak clearer, and move through the world with intention.
She lives, creates, and leads in Washington State, where she continues to build community, empower families, and write books that uplift, educate, and transform.
